Laura Risk

A California native, Laura Risk began playing Scottish fiddle music as a teenager. Her love of traditional fiddling has led her to performing and teaching the repertoires of Scotland, Cape Breton and, most recently, Québec, where she now lives. As evidenced in her albums, her playing ranges from music composed for 18th-century Scottish drawing rooms to driving strathspeys and reels suitable for a Cape Breton dance floor. Laura has toured extensively as a soloist and as a member of numerous bands (Greenfire, Ensemble Galilei, The John Whelan Band, Cordelia's Dad), performing at venues such as The Newport Folk Festival, Celtic Connections (Glasgow, Scotland), Celtic Colours (Cape Breton Island), and Baltimore’s Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Her first solo CD was named one of The Boston Globe‘s ‘Top 10 CDs of the Year, and her first album, Greenfire, was an Allegro Corporation’s #1 World Music title and one of BMG Record Club’s Top 15 Bestsellers for the year.
