Chester was quickly recognized as a promising musician. By the age of 8, he was a regular at Beale Street in memphis where he played the guitar and danced for pocket change from the crowd. By the age of 14, Chester was plying with local bands at various clubs around Memphis. Among the groups he played with were the Tempress and the Reflections.
After serving in the US Navy for 10 years, he returned to his first love -- playing the blues. He played with such popular Memphis performers as J. J. Blues, Fieldstones, little Milton, Albert King, B. B. King, as well as Carla and Rufus Thomas.
Since the mid 1990's, Chester has worked the East Coast. In 1995 his wife Barbara Chandler, incorporated his nickname "Memphis Gold" as his new stage presences. Since then, Memphis Gold has appeared with renowned artists including Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, the Temptations, and Debra Coleman at the Walnut Creek Ampitheater in Raleigh, NC. More recently, he has co-starred with blues legend Bobby Parker, who is a featured guest on the Memphis Gold CD.
