The Mili Bermejo Trio

Mili Bermejo, composer and vocals Dan Greenspan, bass Doug Johnson, piano Grammy®-winning jazz writer Bob Blumenthal called Boston-based jazz vocalist/composer/ Berklee College of Music Professor Mili Bermejo's unique blend of authentic Latin culture, classical sonorities, beautiful Spanish-language storytelling, and jazz improvisation "the place where jazz meets Latin with elegance and soul." Her music is part of the rich and eclectic musical tapestry that also includes Dizzy Gillespie¹s exciting Afro-Cuban music and Abbey Lincoln¹s progressive social awareness. "Mili Bermejo's aesthetic has always been singular," writes Boston Phoenix reviewer Jon Garelick, "[she] combines all manner of Latin American folk and pop with American jazz in a way that gives her music a flavor that’s as up-to-the-minute as it is Old World." The daughter of Mexican composer/performer Guillermo Bermejo, she will mark the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo with her new trio, an extension of her long-standing duo with husband/bassist Dan Greenspan featuring pianist Doug Johnson. This intimate, drummer-less ensemble returns the spotlight to her experienced voice and new original compositions following tours with her Argentinean-tinged sextet, with guitarist/composer Claudio Ragazzi, and her octet, co-led by drummer/composer/arranger George Schuller and a cast of New York downtown all-stars.
