The Myles Family is a family-based gospel group from Lyon. Reverend Marvin Myles, the father of the family, had the gospel music performance tradition passed on to him from older brothers and other singers while growing up in Friars Point. In the late 1980s Myles and his wife Olivia began working with their five children, LaShondra, Keith, Samantha, Marvin II, and Melvin to form their own group. They have also traveled to perform in Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Norway. Through their performances the Myles Family presents an overview of African-American sacred music. They sing traditional spirituals, gospel songs from earlier in this century, and contemporary gospel music that they compose themselves.
