The Northern State University Symphonic Band

The Northern State University Symphonic Band is the select, auditioned instrumental ensemble in the department of music at the university. The 74-member ensemble presents a minimum of five separate programs each academic year to a variety of audiences. The membership includes students from all academic disciplines and represents students from a wide geographic area representing six states. The Symphonic Band has garnered a reputation as the finest ensemble of its kind in South Dakota and the surrounding region. Guest soloists who have performed with the band include: trumpeter Joe Burgstaller of the Canadian Brass; clarinetist Robert Spring of Arizona State University; flutist Maggie Schuberg of Montana State University; trombonist Randy Kohlenber of the University of North Carolina-Greensboro; trumpeter Delon Lyren of Bemidji State University, and trumpeter Grant Manhart of Northern State University.
