Pantasia

Pantasia is a musical ensemble from Findlay High School in Findlay, Ohio. Using steel drums (or “pans”) handcrafted from 55-gallon oil drums, Pantasia performs a wide variety of music. The unique sound quality of the steel drum, the national instrument of the island nations of Trinidad and Tobago, lends itself well to virtually all musical styles, from calypso to classical. A simple way to illustrate the “voicing” of a typical steel band is to compare it with a choir: “lead” (soprano voice); “seconds” (alto voice); “cellos” (tenor voice) and “bass” (bass voice). A compliment of backing percussion instruments is referred to as the “engine room.
