Kavita Shah

Kavita Shah is gaining a reputation as a visionary young singer, composer, and arranger. Shah was hailed by Downbeat Magazine as “Best Graduate Jazz Vocalist” in 2012 and was a recipient of a 2013 ASCAP Foundation Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award. A native New Yorker of Indian origin fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and French, Ms. Shah incorporates elements of world music into her jazz-based repertoire.  Her debut album Visions, to be released in  May, 2014 was co-produced by renowned Beninese guitarist Lionel Loueke (Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard), and features the traditional Indian tablas and West African kora interlaced with a jazz quintet.
