Patton Circle Brass Quintet is a new ensemble in the Washington, D.C.
area. In its first year of existence they performed frequently at Brucker
Hall, on the Ft. Myer Army Post. Now in their second year, they are
starting to get out into the community!
Tubist Tom Bratten was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. He received a bachelors degree from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky and a masters degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He went on to doctoral studies at the University of Georgia at Athens, however, those studies were suspended when he received a position with the U.S. Army Band in 1999. Tom enjoys watching football on Sundays.
Hornist Rick Lee grew up in Columbus, Georgia and attended the
University of Georgia, Athens as an undergraduate. He received a masters
degree from Yale University and then spent a season in Germany with the
Hofersymphoniker as principal horn. He joined the U.S. Army Band in 1999. He enjoys playing basketball.
Trombonist Kirsten Lies-Warfield hails from Fargo, North Dakota. She
received her bachelors degree from Lawrence University in Appleton,
Wisconsin. It was there she met her husband Patrick. She went on to
further studies at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. These
studies were suspended when she took a position with the United States Army Band in 1999. Last year, she became a proud parent of a beautiful mutt she likes to call Master Raro.
Joshua Lies is also from Fargo, North Dakota. In fact, Joshua is the
brother of Kirsten Lies-Warfield. He received his bachelors degree in
trumpet performance from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. There he met his wife Ann. He went on to get a masters degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and then joined the Air Force, serving first with their Band of Flight at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, then moving to DC and joining the United States Air Force Band. He enjoys the company of his wife and also their cat, Mackeson.
Growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, trumpeter Todd Taylor also attended the University of Louisville for his bachelors degree. He furthered his studies at Northwestern University and then returned to Louisville,
performing with the Louisville Philharmonic for three seasons. He joined
the army in 1994 and moved to Washington, D.C., where he met his wife Stacy, and served with the Fife and Drum Corps at Ft. Myer. He joined the U.S. Army Band in 1999. Todd is very proud of his Abyssinian cat, Ginger.
