Phlava Dance Company

Phlava Dance Company was founded by Millicent Johnnie and Traci Young in 1999 in Tallahassee, Florida. Phlava is Florida State University's first hip hop and jazz group and has become one of Florida's most distinguished hip hop companies. The company's mission has been to expand and enlighten societal views in all areas of dance, enabling dance to be seen through a wide spectrum, increasing the community's exposure through affordable public performances. This quest to work within the community has enabled the company to dance in many places across America. Nationally, Phlava has had the opportunity to perform at many universities including Amherst College, Tulane University, University of South Carolina, and Florida A&M University; but also has performed internationally in Prague, Czech Republic in the summer of 2002.
