Rabo de Lagartixa

Rabo de Lagartixa (“Tail of the Gecko”) is one of the leading ensembles in the "neo choro" movement sweeping through Brazil. The group was formed in 1993 when its members were studying music together at a program under the auspices of the Villa Lobos Museum in Rio de Janeiro. Since the beginning, the spirit of the group has been to have fun with the music. They would often perform Brazilian instrumental music in public schools in Rio, and they developed arrangements where the "game" was to show each different instrument soloing, so children could identify the particular sonority of each instrument and how it sounded within the group. This has become the hallmark of the group.
