Douglas Rosenberg

Douglas Rosenberg is the recipient of the prestigious 2002 Phelan Art Award in Video. He is well-known for his collaborations with Molissa Fenley, Sean Curran, Joe Goode, Li Chiao-Ping and others. Recent honors include fellowships from the Project on Death in America, funded by the Soros Foundation, the Wisconsin Arts Board (Fellowship in Performance), Isadora Duncan Dance Award (IZZIE), Bay Area Dance Coalition. His work has been funded by the NEA, the Zellerbach Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. His numerous residencies include: The Institute for Studies in The Arts, and the International Festival of Video Dance in Buenos Aires, Argentina and recently STARLAB Institute, Brussels and the Video Danza Mostra, Barcelona. Recent shows include, Video Festival Riccionne Teatro Televisione, Riccione, Italy, The Contemporary Art Museum in Buenos Aires, Dance on Camera Festival, NY, Mostra de Vídeo Dansa de Barcelona, Spain, The Video Place, London, Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York and Moving Pictures Festival of Video Dance, Toronto.

Ryan Smith, a busy performer and composer, has made music for performance art, dance, video, and concert settings in Wisconsin, Illinois, Utah, Ohio, Iowa, and Massachusetts, and most recently, as live electronicist for groups such as AdaPT and the Madison Contact Improv Group. He regularly performs with fellow electronicist Jeff Snyder, with whom he co-composed a winning entry to Public Enemy's recent remix contest. He is a graduate of UW-Madison, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Composition, and a certificate in Women's Studies. Major teachers include Joel Naumann, Stephen Dembski, and Caroll Chilton.

Daniel Feiler (Composer) moved to Wisconsin in 1997 from Northern Arizona where he was involved with the performance art group Milla Raspa. He has played Bass for the past 16 years ranging from jazz to punk to ambient. He is currently in the IATECH program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison investigating soundtrack and video design.

Screening the Body is a performance work that exists at the intersections of Dance, Video and Sound. It features dance films by Rosenberg and live original music by Ryan Smith and Daniel Feiler. The dances in the program have been created specifically for the camera and are joined together by brief interludes or entre’acts, short films that allude to the body in poetic and imagistic ways. Choreography in Screening the Body is by Li Chiao-Ping, Molissa Fenley and others.
