Montgomery Co. Public Schools Senior Honors Jazz Ensemble

The Montgomery County Public Schools Senior Honors Jazz Ensemble has been in existence since 1978. Students from 22 high schools audition each year and perform for a variety of audiences including school, community, and civic functions, as well as festivals and competitions. Some of the most notable performances of the jazz ensemble were showcase concerts at the East Coast Jazz Festival, the National Convention of the International Association of Jazz Educators, The Music Educators National Conference Convention, the Blues Alley Supper Club, and the Maryland Music Educators State Convention. The jazz ensemble took second place in 1987 and 1988 at the Down Beat National Jazz Musicfest held in Chicago and Orlando successively. In October, 1997, the ensemble performed a concert of newly-published jazz ensemble music at the Maryland Music Educators AssociationÆs Fall in-service workshop.
