Sharon Shannon

Accordionist Sharon Shannon hails from County Clare, Ireland, where she has performed as a soloist and with A WomanÆs Heart, the Waterboys, Steve Earle, Nanci GriffithÆs Other Voices and Donal LunnyÆs Coolfin. Growing up in the village of Ruan (near Corofin), Shannon was continually exposed to traditional music. Her parents were set dancers and all four of the children played instruments, starting with tin whistles. Shannon began playing the accordion when she was eleven and also now performs on fiddle and melodeon. Major recognition first came when she was in her teens, when she played in Jim SheridanÆs production of Brendan BehanÆs The Hostage for the Druid Theatre Company.
