South Highlands Academic and Performing Arts Magnet

South Highlands Academic and Performing Arts Magnet School (Shreveport, LA) presents a “Let The Good Times Roll” or “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler,” a program of instrumental and vocal music, art, dance and narration meant to preserve and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Louisiana. South Highlands Academic & Performing Arts Elementary Magnet School has been named Louisiana’s only Elementary School of Academic Excellence since 1999 and in 2000 was a National Blue Ribbon School. In order to enrich other areas of the curriculum, teachers at South Highlands use art, music and drama as a focus for their academic instruction. Social Studies and historical facts are explored though vocal literature, composers, music periods, cultures and foreign languages. Mathematical principles are used in rhythmic patterns and problem solving.
