Silver Spring Brass

The Silver Spring Brass made their debut in the summer of 2001, appearing as the featured ensemble at the Washington, DC convention of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. Founded by trombonist David Kanter, the Silver Spring Brass has utilized the talents of local students and freelance musicians to perform music of extraordinary diversity. This was guaranteed by the varied backgrounds of the instrumentalists, who have come from the east coast and Midwest, and who represent institutions like the Eastman School of Music and the University of Maryland. Their music making reflects their symphonic and jazz backgrounds, and they arrange and compose much of their own music. The musicians include trombonist David Kanter, tubist Blair Goins, hornist Erik Kofoed, and trumpeters Brandon Almagro and Michael Piccione.
