The Southampton Youth Pops Orchestra

Southampton Youth Pops Orchestra On a cold, damp January morning, fifty talented young musicians set up their music stands in the main hall of TauntonÆs College and played their way through the first Southampton Youth Pops Orchestra rehearsal. After only nine rehearsals, the membership of the orchestra had almost doubles and the sound created is now very impressive. At only their fourth rehearsal, a sound engineer recorded material for the orchestraÆs audition CD for the National Festival of Music for Youth. The CD was submitted and a few weeks later they learned that the Pops Orchestra had been selected to appear at the Royal Festival Hall on July 10, 1999. Since playing at the Royal Festival Hall, the SPO has performed in front of packed houses, further enhancing SouthamptonÆs reputation for excellent youth music.
