SPARX Joan Sparks, Flute Anne Sullivan, Harp Since 1986, the versatile playing of Joan Sparks and Anne Sullivan has celebrated the elegance and depth of the flute and harp format. The duo has proven adept at seeking out new material written for flute and harp, and celebrated their 10th anniversary by commissioning the Sonata for Flute and Harp, Op. 56, from Grammy-nominated American composer Lowell Liebermann. They premiered the piece on ValentineÆs Day 1997, and on the date of its publication they performed it once again at the National Flute Association annual convention in Chicago. The duo has been honored with many regional and national awards, including the American ComposerÆs Forum Performance Incentive Grant and the prestigious Chamber Music America Ensemble Residency Matching Grant, which aided Sparx in developing a combined residency between a school and a group of retirement communities.
