Kristi Stassinopoulou

Kristi Stassinopoulou is a singer, lyricist and fiction writer. She spent her childhood in Athens where she was inspired by traditional folk music along with classic rock groups such as Jefferson Airplane and post-punk groups such as Blondie. She put a Grecian turn on the modern rock music she played in numerous high school bands, and has charted her own, very personal and independent course in the music scene in Greece. In the late ‘80s, Stassinopoulou, with Stathis Kalyviotis, formed “Selana,” the underground cult group that combined garage rock with Greek traditional dance rhythms and melodies. The sound, described as “ethnopunk,” took the band out of the boarders of their country and onto the international music scene.
