Step Aside Tap Company

Step Aside Tap Company, formed in 1995 by Barbara Bingley, is a tap repertoire company comprised of tap dancers from the Knock On Wood Tap Studio in Silver Spring, MD and the surrounding Washington, DC area. Directed by Shawna McCartney Frey, the group is a sought-after addition at dance festivals and concerts. The group performs throughout the Metro DC area and nationally including annual appearances at Dance Place’s TapFest, Washington DC’s TapFest, and Tappers With Attitude concerts. Step Aside recently presented Knock On Wood - A Tap Concert with TWA at the University of Maryland and an Evening of Percussive Dance and Music at Joe’s Movement Emporium, both to sell-out crowds. They have also performed on National Public Radio for Black History Month, at the Duke Theater in New York for the 2002 New York City Tap Festival, and were featured performers for the Live at Woodrow Wilson Plaza Summertime Concert series at the Ronald Reagan Federal Building in July 2001.
