Tamagusuku Ryu/Maekawa Michiko School

Michiko Maekawa, Head Master of Tamagusuku Ryu / Shosetsu Michiko no Kai, is renown for her mastery of a wide range of dance styles from elegant, delicate women’s dances to powerful, dynamic men’s dances. Her proficiency in other arts of Okinawa -- taiko (drum), sanshin (3-string lute) and karate – adds a dimension to her dances that is truly unique among dance schools. Audiences throughout Okinawa, mainland Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, France, Austria, and Hawaii have received her performances with great acclaim. Michiko Maekawa is one of seven Head Masters who were taught by Setsuko Tamagusuku, one of the most recognized dancers in Japan. The Tamagusuku Ryu/ Shosetsu Michiko no Kai, established in 1985, includes 6 instructors and 28 awardees of prestigious dance certifications.
