Otis Taylor

Recipient of the 2002 Handy Award as Best New Blues Artist, Otis Taylor was born in Chicago in 1948. His family moved to Denver, where, as a youngster, Taylor bought his first instrument, a ukulele. Soon after he picked up the banjo and harmonica. In 1974 he formed his first band, the Butterscotch Fire Department Blues Band, followed by the Otis Taylor Blues Band. After playing and recording in London during the late 1960s, Taylor returned to Colorado as a member of the T&O Short Line, a band that included legendary singer/guitarist Tommy Bolin.
