U.S. Marine Band Jazz Orchestra

The Marine Jazz Orchestra, an 18-member big band drawn from “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band, demonstrates that Marine Band musicians can swing just as well as they perform marches, classical transcriptions, and modern wind band repertoire. For its first performance on the Millennium Stage, the Marine Jazz Orchestra will present a tribute to Count Basie, one of the pillars of the big band era. Chosen from a variety of arrangers whose work shaped Basie’s legendary orchestra, selections will include “Basie Straight Ahead,” “Moten Swing,” “Kid from Red Bank,” “Shiny Stockings,” and “One O’Clock Jump.
