The Washington Opera: Opera Institute for Young Singers

This unique three-week program, directed by Washington Opera Education Director Debra Evans, nurtures and encourages the development of young singers, ages 15 through 18. The curriculum provides training in the components essential for well-educated singers, with a focus on art song literature, in preparation for college and beyond. Professional Opera Company staff and artists from The Washington Opera, The Summer Opera Theater Company and beyond engage students in workshops to develop well-rounded musicianship and to further professional development. Students participate in classes, hands-on workshops, individual vocal coachings, career building opera study, master classes, and more. Opera scenes are prepared and performed in a workshop format.
