Young Playwright's Theater

Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT), a non-profit organization based in the Columbia Heights/Adams Morgan area, was founded in 1995 by MacArthur Award-winning playwright, Karen Zacarias. YPT is an organization committed to using theater and writing to foster dialogue, arts education, literacy, and conflict resolution in the community and, in the process, create new plays for a new America. Audiences are developed by having a new generation of participants discover their voices and stories through the dramatic arts. Through dynamic, active engagement and collaboration, YPT brings students, actors, playwrights, audiences, and established theaters into discovering the intimate voices of their own communities. YPT aims in particular, but not exclusively, to work with the people who have been excluded or under-represented within the American theater.
