Charanjit Singh

The rediscovery of Singh's 1982 album "Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat" caused a stir in the world of dance & electronic music when it was re-released in 2010. An album sounding like acid house recorded in Bombay in 1982, three years before the first Chicago and Detroit releases. It was not a hoax. Charanjit recorded ancient Indian ragas using Roland drum machines and synthesizers - all set to a 'disco' beat - creating what Mojo magazine referred to as "a startling piece of proto house". Since 2012, he and veteran Dutch producer Thee J Johanz have been touring with the original Roland gear to ecstatic responses.
