Tierra Tango

The word “tierra” translates loosely as “motherland,” the place of ancestors where souls are rooted.  Tierra Tango features up to six musicians and two to four tango dancers.  Not surprisingly for a genre that emerged from the confluence of Black, Gaucho and European cultures in the Rio de la Plata, the ensemble is international and features artists from Argentina, Uruguay, Finland and Germany.   This gifted ensemble is led by Argentine songwriter Katie Viqueira, one of the most successful female tango voices in the American scene, hailed as a “Latin diva” and a “hot tango star” by the Boston Globe.   Her career began in her native Buenos Aires, where she shared the stage with some of Argentina’s greatest artists and with international bands such as Air Supply.
