Founded in 1987 by a group of young amateur singers under conductor Yalan Gethela , the Inner Mongolian Chorus has become one of China's representative vocal ensembles, rivalingprofessional ensembles in popularity and recognition. It has appeared on national television and participated in major festivals nationally and abroad. An a cappella group consisting of some forty-one singers, the unique blend of Western choral techniques and Mongolian traditional songs performed by the Inner Mongolian Chorus has enchanted audiences wherever it performs. The Inner Mongolian Chorus first attracted attention during the 1991 Beijing Choir Festival. The following two years, the Chorus participated in the two successive China International Choir Festivals held in Beijing, and received awards from the Ministry of Culture for musical excellence.
