Red Poppy

Red Poppy, China’s all-female percussion ensemble, performs on more than 40 types of Chinese and Western percussion instruments.  Combining new age and world music with distinct traditional Chinese characteristics, flashy outfits and high energy, Red Poppy boasts a repertoire of percussion pieces by famous composers from around the world.  Their thunderous performances have been televised on stations from South Africa to Canada to MTV in the United States.  Red Poppy was formed in 2000 as the first professional female percussion ensemble in China. It is also the 2005 Golden Butterfly Award-winner, China's equivalent of the Grammy Award.
