Shenzhen Musical Prodigies

Each under 18 years old and well on their way to international celebrity status, these three prize-winning pianists have all studied under famed Professor Dan Zhaoyi from China’s Shenzhen Arts School. At the Kennedy Center, the three teenage phenoms perform two evenings of classical music.

Each under 18 years old and well on their way to international celebrity status, He Qizhen, Zuo Zhang, Pan Linzi, and Zhang Haochen are prize-winning pianists who have all studied under famed Professor Dan Zhaoyi of China’s Shenzhen Arts School. They perform piano classics by Mozart, Chopin, Schubert, and Liszt, as well as works by modern Chinese composers Ding Shande, Li Yinghai, Chu Wanghua, and Wang Jianzhong.

Shenzhen musical prodigies (see Oct. 4) perform under National Symphony Orchestra Music Director Leonard Slatkin for this record-breaking gathering of 100 pianists. They make music with young Chinese piano sensation Chen Sa, plus 95 other young pianists from the Curtis Institute of Music, Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Peabody Conservatory of Music, and Levine School of Music on pianos provided by Jordan Kitts.
