Madlenium

Centre for the Art of Movement Madlenium is founded in September of 1999, in Belgrade, Serbia, as independent, non-profit organisation. Since, in extremely hard conditions in our country, Madlenium keeps growing and spreading the array of its activities. Constant increase in quality in technique of contemporary dance and adding new is one of the basics of our work. We also organise annual assemblies and a festival, as well as other forms of presentations of dance with well-known companies from Serbia.

We are especially committed to working with children and young talented artists. One of our main goals is broadening of co-operation with all interested art companies, organisations and/or individuals from the region or abroad.

Madlenium, as a professional dancing company, regularly performs its own shows in Bitef Theatre, Belgrade, Belgrade Drama Theatre and National Theatre in Belgrade). Svetlana Djurovi? is the founder, director and choreographer of the Centre. Ranko Lasica is the cofounder, technical director and dancer.

Madlenium has two companies. The Professional and Junior Contemporary Dance Company participate in art projects, performances, corporate projects, assemblies and festivals, tours. They teach studio classes for classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz dance, martial arts, and yoga. The studio for contemporary dance is host to seminars that feature foreign teachers and choreographers.

In Madlenium there are presently about 100 young people attending different forms of contemporary dance through all sorts of education and art projects. Since the foundation of Madlenium the total of all students who have participated exceeds 500. In following years the Centre has devised a detailed plan of activities and projects: Elaborating art co-operation with other dancing companies and work with famous foreign teachers, as well as propagating contemporary dance to youth and students, who are in the main projects of the centre. Up to now, that was achieved by organising performances, festivals and assemblies which enabled sharing of experiences with number of other companies from the country, as well as the other authors, teachers and dancers. Centre is in excellent working relations with Bitef theatre, BDP (Belgrade Drama Theatre), UBUS (Serbian Ballet Artist’s Society),National Theatre, City department of Culture, Ministry of Culture, RTS (National TV Network ), ART-TV – local broadcasting station.

Svetlana Djurovic is the founder, director and choreographer of the Centre for the Art of Movement Madlenium. Her ballet teachers were M. Sanjina, A. Roja, J. Bjegojevi?. Her dancing career started in the Dubravka Maleti?’s contemporary dance studio, then in Dankan Company. Also she created and worked as a vocal soloist, choreographer and costume expert in band Odjila, performing on many scenes in and outside Serbia and ex-Yugoslavia (Greece, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Great Britain, Israel, Taiwan). Svetlana initiated and founded many manifestations on contemporary art dance (“Body Shop”, Bitef Theatre – Belgrade, “Give me wings for a spin” festival for children companies – Belgrade).
