University of Texas Trombone Choir

The University of Texas Trombone Choir was founded in the fall of 1977 by UT Professor Emeritus, Donald Knaub. As a testament to the group's artistry, the UT Trombone Choir was featured at the 2002 and 2006 Eastern Trombone Workshops (Arlington, VA) and was named winner of the 2002 Emory Remington International Trombone Choir Competition. The UT Austin Jazz Bones, a subset of the trombone choir program, was named winner of the 2001 Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition, The Choir conducted a three-city tour of Brazil during the summer of 2004, performing and presenting masterclasses at universities in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo en route to a showcase concert at the Brazilian Trombone Festival in Porto Alegre. Trip highlights included a performance and interview on South America's most popular TV talk show, "Programa do Jo"; and a performance in Rio's oldest and most important cathedral, Igreja da Candelaria, to a standing-room-only crowd of nearly 2,000.
