Cantes Huastecos is a cycle of ten songs for soprano, tenor, string quartet, Huastec jarana, and guitar. In Cantes Huastecos, the voices of the soprano and the tenor alternate in imitation of the Huastec descante. The string quartet and the jarana or guitar intertwines in order to sustain the rhythmic-harmonical texture typical of the Huapango, or Huastec son. Presented in cooperation with the Mexican Cultural Institute.
