Musica Ficta (The Kennedy Center)

Musica Ficta

It is no longer a secret among lovers of historic music performances that the repertoire of 17th century Latin American music holds real treasures. The music brings together apparently incompatible elements such as dance, the participation of women, God and the Virgin Mary. Borders between the cultures of the common people and noblemen, between the clerical and secular worlds, are overstepped. Pictures of love and devotion as well as feasts and worship come to mind. Founded in 1988 in Bogotá, Columbia, the vocal and instrumental ensemble Musica Ficta has earned an international reputation for its performances of New World, Spanish Renaissance and Baroque repertoire.
