The Young Lions

The Young Lions:Quincy Phillips, drumsKris Funn, bassTed Baker, tenor saxophoneAllyn Johnson, pianoDeAndre Shaifer, trumpetThe Young Lions are led by Quincy Phillips.  In 2007, as a Howard University graduate student, Phillips won a DownBeat award for Best College Jazz Arrangement for his treatment of the Dietz and Schwartz standard "Alone Together."  To date, Quincy is studying, teaching, ministering, recording and playing drums and keys locally.  The Young Lions have been requlars during the U St. jazz renaissance -- playing frequently at Café Nema and The Bohemian Caverns.
