Ahmed Fathi was born in Alhodayda which lies on the coast of the Red Sea in Yemen. When he was eight, he became interested in lute instruments. At the age of twelve he became a brilliant artist in his school, following in the footsteps of Yemeni and Arab artists. He was affected by the most famous lute performers in both Yemen and other Arab countries of that period. After finishing his studies in the preparatory stage, he joined the "High Institute of Arab Music" in Cairo.
