Eastman Trombone Choir (The Kennedy Center)

Eastman Trombone Choir

The Eastman Trombone Choir was founded in 1941 by Emory Remington at the Eastman School of Music. Remington was Professor of Trombone from 1922-1972 and was succeeded by Donald Knaub in 1973 and John Marcellus in 1978.The concept of the trombone choir as a pedagogical extension of the trombone studio has been imitated throughout the United States and abroad and follows the tradition of the Moravian Trombone Choir established in the 17th century in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The current Eastman Trombone Choir performs original compositions and arrangements from the 16th century to the present day.  Works by Gabrieli, Schutz, Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Wagner, Verdi, Respighi and Debussy are staples in the repertoire while the 20th century is represented by Shostakovich, Bougeois, Vollrath, Eric Ewazen and Ray Wright among others.
