The Continentals

The Continentals Polka Band has performed at venues all over the country, but comes from right here in the Washington area.  With eight CDs and impressive credentials, the group has been playing at Oktoberfest celebrations and private functions for around thirty years and they are considered the leaders of polka in the United States.  The Continentals have not only hosted at least nine Caribbean cruises, but the group also received the Governor’s Citation Award for two decades of true musical excellence on their twentieth anniversary and their latest CD Polkanceptions was named the #2 polka variety CD of 2008, both awards firmly embedding the Continentals into their niche on the national polka scene.Mike Surrat, the group’s founder, has been a true visionary in bringing polka culture to America.  His notable list of credentials includes the Federal Republic of Germany Friendship Award, the “Wammie” Award from the Washington Area Music Association, and 2008’s Best World Music Vocalist Award.
