Welsh National Opera

The Welsh National Opera, also known as Cenedlaethol Cymru in its native land, was founded in 1946 and is based out of the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Wales.  The world-class touring company is made up of 250 members and is comprised of a world-renowned choir and orchestra.  The Opera has also been the recipient of several prestigious awards, among them three Royal Philharmonic Society Awards, the Barclays Theatre Award, and two Laurence Olivier Awards.  It has taken on many well-known pieces over the years, such as Carmen, La Traviata, The Barber of Seville, and Sweeney Todd.  However, they are also known for their affinity for works by lesser known composers like Leoš Janácek, Alban Berg, and Benjamin Britten.
