National Symphony Orchestra Principal Horn since 2000, Martin Hackleman began playing when he was 16. During his studies at the University of Houston, in 1972, at the age of 19, he won the principal horn chair in the Calgary Philharmonic. Other teachers have included Barry Tuckwell and Roland Berger (Vienna Philharmonic). Mr. Hackleman was principal horn of the Vancouver Symphony from 1974 to 1983 and again from 1990 to 1999.
