Xiomara Reyes
Born in Cuba, Xiomara Reyes studied at Cuba's National Ballet School. Upon her
graduation, she danced as a soloist with La Joven Guardia, the second company
of Cuba's National Ballet. Besides national tours with the company, she went to
both Mexico and Colombia. Two years later she was invited to appear with the Royal
Ballet of Flanders in Belgium. She danced with this company for seven years rising
to the rank of First Soloist.

Her repertoire included Nikiya in La Bayadère, Cinderella in Cinderella,
Kitri in Don Quixote, Swanilda in Coppélia, Giselle in Giselle,
Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Odette-Odile in Swan Lake. She also
performed principal roles in ballets by George Balanchine, Paolo Bortoluzzi, and
Christopher D'Amboise, among others.
With the Royal Ballet of Flanders she danced in Europe, Asia, and the United States.
She has danced as a guest in France with the Jeune Ballet de France, in Italy
with Balleto Del Sud, in Greece with the Nafsika Dance Theater, in Korea at the
International Dance Festival and in Russia with the Bashkirian State Ballet.
Her awards include: the Gold Medal for the Best Soloist at the International Ballet
Competition of Chiclayo, Peru (1996), Best Couple Prize at the XIV International
Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria (1990), Silver Medal at the Cinquienne Concours
International de Danse de Paris (1992), La Medaille de la Ville de Paris (1992)
and Second Prize at the International Ballet Competition in Luxembourg (1995).
Reyes joined American Ballet Theatre as a Soloist in January 2001. Her roles with
the Company include a Shade in La Bayadère, the first and fourth
movements in Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1, Autumn in Cinderella,
an Odalisque in Le Corsaire, Who Was She? in Dim Lustre, Amour in
Don Quixote, Lise in La Fille mal gardée, the peasant pas
de deux, Moyna and Giselle in Giselle, Valencienne in The Merry Widow,
Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, the Debutante in Offenbach
in the Underworld, Olga in Onegin, Princess Florine and Diamond in
The Sleeping Beauty, the pas de trios and the Hungarian Princess in Swan
Lake and the third movement in Symphony in C.
She created a leading role in Within You Without You: A Tribute to George Harrison.
