Ben Carroll comes from a musical family as the son of Grammy-winning Starland Vocal Band members ("Afternoon Delight", 1976). Carroll enjoyed a rich musical exposure in his childhood, chiefly in the veins of harmony-laden folk and pop of the 1970s, and the R&B, soul, and roots sounds of the deep south. These influences have been naturally integrated into his music.

A soul and folk artist at once, Carroll has steadily toured North America and Europe as a solo act since 2004. He released his debut solo album Lover Undercover in 2005 and his follow up Real Thing in 2007 (on UK label Blue Cloud Records), which was #1 for five weeks on AAA FM Radio in Ohio and was played on over fifty radio stations in the US and Europe. His songs have also been featured in television and film, most recently in Pier’s End Productions’ 2008 release Wake, which premiered at the Tribeca Cinema in New York City. Amore Magazine's reader poll voted Carroll a top solo artist, and his songwriting and performances have been celebrated by the New York Songwriters Circle and BMI New York.

Jon Carroll has lived in Washington, D.C. since 1968. He is a veteran writer, performer, producer, arranger, and educator, as well as a Grammy & Wammie winning recording artist. His solo release, Love Returns, won 7 Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) awards including Album of the Year, Song of the Year (for “Paint That Dollar”), Musician of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. The follow-up live 2-CD concert recording, Jon Carroll & Love Returns--Live at The Barns At Wolf Trap was released in 2008. Carroll and the album received awards for Songwriter of the Year, Pop Rock Recording, Pop Rock Vocalist, Pop Rock Duo/Group, Pop Rock Instrumentalist & Musician of the Year.

Jon began his musical career right out of high school with Starland Vocal Band, who received a Best New Artist Grammy with their #1 record, Afternoon Delight. Jon’s arrangement also won the Grammy for Best Arrangement for Voices. Jon and the group were nominated for 5 Grammies that year. The group recorded 5 albums as Starland Vocal Band and are proud members of the WAMA Hall of Fame.

At the 1st WAMA awards in 1985 Jon won the Songwriter Wammie for his song “Get Closer”, which was made a pop hit by Linda Ronstadt. Jon has written songs that have been recorded by Linda Ronstadt, Tom Jones and Kenny Rogers. He has been the long-time keyboardist and vocalist with Wammie & Grammy winner Mary Chapin Carpenter. He has also performed with Rodney Crowell and the Dixie Chicks. Carroll is most proud to be a bandmate, session player and mainstay assisting varied Washington, D.C. area artists throughout the years and still today.
