Flexible Music Ensemble (The Kennedy Center)

Flexible Music Ensemble

Inspired by Dutch composer Louis Andriessen's Hout, Flexible Music enthusiastically explores its versatile instrumentation of saxophone, guitar, piano and percussion. Since its formation in 2003, the group has commissioned over thirty pieces, primarily by American composers, by some of the most exciting emerging and established composers active today. Flexible Music’s 2009-2010 season included concerts on the Macau International Music Festival in China and at the Kennedy Center, as well as at William and Mary College in Virginia, Le Poisson Rouge  and Galapagos Art Space in New York, and at the Brooklyn/Queens Conservatory in New York. Flexible Music was a featured guest on the Mid-American Festival of New Music at Bowling Green State University in October of 2008. Last season’s activities included performances at Syracuse University, Evolution Music Series (Baltimore), Chamber Music Now (Philadelphia), a cd release event at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York, a concert at the Issue Project Room (Brooklyn) and master classes at American University and the Peabody Institute of Music.
