Thomas Dausgaard became Chief Conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra/DR in August 2004. The orchestra has developed impressively under his leadership, and together they tour worldwide and record extensively. Amongst their achievements are a disc of Nielsen works which was nominated for a 2007 Gramophone award, and a DVD of Danish composer Langgaard's opera "Antikrist" on the Dacapo label, which won ‘DVD of the Year' at the 2005 International Internet Awards. The latest release of Dausgaard's authoritative recording cycle of works by Langgaard includes ‘Music of the Spheres'; in August 2010, he and the orchestra gave the UK première of this work at the BBC Proms at a performance which caused a sensation amongst audiences and critics. The Orchestra was praised for the "luminous beauty" of the performance (The Times) and Dausgaard for his "total command" of the players (BBC Music Magazine).
