Jauvon Gilliam was named principal timpanist of the National Symphony Orchestra in 2009 at age 29 by unanimous vote of the orchestra committee and Music Director Christoph Eschenbach.
Since 2011, Jauvon performs regularly as guest principal timpanist of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He is also timpanist of the All-Star Orchestra, a made-for-TV group comprised of principal players from all across the United States, airing on PBS nationwide in 2013 and 2014.
Jauvon is currently the Director of Percussion Studies/Artist-in-Residence at the University of Maryland. He also held the same position at the University of Manitoba.
