Harmonia Opera Company

Harmonia Opera Company was founded by Emiko Iinuma in 1981 for the purpose of promoting an artistic bond between Japan and America.The company presents operas that embody Japanese and American musical inspiration. Based in New York, Harmonia Opera Company has staged many operas, including Yuzuru, Madame Chrysanthème, Iris, Madame Butterfly, Gombo Gitsune, Osho To Kozo, Fox and Otter, A Story of Three Women, Amanjaku and Princess Uriko, Tojin Okichi, and Flower Drum Song. The Company has also performed world premieres of Danny Boy by Toya and New Hope by Robin Berger, in addition to the American premiere of the Japanese opera Ayame inspired by novelist Yukio Mishima. In 2006, Harmonia Opera Company celebrated its 25th Anniversary at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall with a performance of Kurofune.
