Amy Charmatz's art has been shaped by the process of living her life, and now she finds that her art is responsible for shaping her personal experiences. Her artistic motivation can be found in her need to turn her emotions into creative ideas. Charmatz has undergone several brain surgeries and lengthy bouts of clinical depression. Within her artwork, she uses bright colors, outlined images, and written messages to convey "truths" that she has come to believe during her lifetime. Charmatz lives and works in Springfield, New Jersey, and has exhibited at the American Folk Art Museum in New York City as well as throughout her home state.
