Kirra, neon lightbox (David Forbes)

David Forbes

David Forbes’s artwork is primarily concerned with the exploration of light—what can be learned of its character and strength and how it affects color. Prior to the onset of Parkinson’s disease, Forbes was painting and producing light-based sculptures and fabricating the neon himself. As he no longer has the dexterity to paint or bend neon glass, he draws his neon patterns for a commercial subcontractor to produce. With the assistance of friends, colleagues, and subcontractors, he now creates larger sculptures than ever before. Forbes received a master of fine arts from the University of California–Berkeley and lives in West End (Brisbane), Australia.
