Katherine Sherwood is a California-based artist who explores the intersection of art and medical technology in her work. After experiencing a cerebral hemorrhage, Sherwood became inspired to go in new artistic directions. Her paintings reflect her continuing interest in the representation of the brain and are composed of cerebral angiograms incorporated with sixteenth-century imagery of neuroanatomy. The simultaneous use of these widely disparate views suggests two revolutionary moments in our understanding and representations of the brain. Sherwood received her master of fine arts from the San Francisco Art Institute and has exhibited her work all over the United States and internationally.
