Athena Tergis (Irish Arts Center, New York City)

Athena Tergis

Athena Tergis Born in Manhattan and raised in San Francisco, Tergis began learning the violin with the Suzuki method, developing her quick ear for learning music at an early age. Frustrated by the strict interpretations of classical music, she found her true voice in the freedom of traditional folk music. After living in Ireland and touring with groups such as The Sharon Shannon Band, Tergis came to New York to star in Riverdance on Broadway.  She built Sonic Arts Studios in Brooklyn, and has established a second studio in Tuscany, where she now lives. Tergis has toured and recorded with numerous other artists, from Mick Moloney of the Green Fields of America, to Niamh Parsons, to sax player Clarence Clemons from the E-Street Band.
