Uruguayan soprano María Eugenia Antúnez is in her second year of WNO’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. She was last seen at WNO as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Performance) and in the premiere performance of the American Opera Initiative. Last season she was seen as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Performances) and Anna in Nabucco. Later this season she will make her LA Opera debut starring in the world premiere of Dulce Rosa, conducted by Plácido Domingo. She recently made her debut with the Orlando Philharmonic as Mimì in La bohème and performed a recital at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival USA. She has sung Flora in La traviata with Miami Lyric Opera, and made appearances with the Miami Symphony Orchestra and the Florida Chamber Orchestra. In her home country she has appeared in an international opera gala at the Teatro Solís in Montevideo, and sung Adina in L’elisir d’amore and Sofia in Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino. She holds an artist’s certificate from the College of Charleston, where she appeared as Miss Silverpeal in The Impresario, Angelica in Suor Angelica, and Queen Elizabeth I in Maria Stuarda with the College of Charleston Opera. She is a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions at the district and regional levels, as well as a national semi-finalist, and was an Operalia semifinalist in 2011.
